Rooted in history. Looking ahead.

The future of a historic building is about more than bricks and mortar. Silver Works aims to investigate how a long-vacant Sheffield landmark can be carefully restored and brought back into meaningful use, while respecting its heritage and responding to local needs.

Our vision for Silver Works

  • Heritage and restoration

Safeguard the architectural character of a listed building and bring a long-vacant site back into meaningful use.

  • Supported living and independence

Explore accommodation and support pathways for care leavers and vulnerable adults moving towards independent living.

  • Skills and enterprise

Consider training, employability and social enterprise opportunities, including potential active ground-floor uses.

  • Community and belonging

Create a place that contributes to local pride, connection and long-term regeneration of its neighbourhood.

A building worth bringing back.

The project centres on the historic Lion Works complex in the Burngreave and Spital Hill area. The Grade II listed site reflects the industrial character of its surroundings, and years of vacancy have left it in need of careful, long-term regeneration.

A vision in development.

The project is at an early stage of exploration and engagement. Proposals will evolve through technical assessment, stakeholder discussions and the relevant statutory processes.

Understanding the building, its condition and what could be possible.

  2. Engagement

Listening to residents, heritage bodies, housing and support organisations.

  3. Design development

Shaping proposals that respect the historic fabric and the needs of future users.

  4. Statutory processes

Any scheme would require assessment, consultation and the relevant consents.
