Heritage with purpose.

Our ambition is to explore a future for Silver Works that combines the protection of a historic building with opportunities for people and the wider community.

Heritage-led restoration

The starting point is the building itself: its architectural character, material history and significance to its setting. Any viable reuse must be shaped by conservation principles, safety, accessibility and long-term stewardship.

Supported living and independence

The emerging development framework explores accommodation and associated support for care leavers and vulnerable adults moving towards independent living. Potential facilities include private living space, on-site support areas and places for learning practical life skills. The delivery model and any services would depend on qualified partners, approvals and further assessment.

Skills, enterprise and opportunity

The concept also considers flexible spaces that could help people build confidence and practical experience, including a possible community-facing social-enterprise use at ground level. The intention is to connect the regeneration of the building with wider opportunities for participation.

Community and belonging

Silver Works aspires to become a positive presence within its neighbourhood. Future engagement will be important in understanding local priorities and shaping proposals that respect the area and contribute meaningfully to it.

Creating value beyond the building.

The ambition for Silver Works is to investigate how heritage restoration can be connected to meaningful social outcomes, including greater independence, opportunities to develop skills and stronger links with the local community.

Potential outcomes we are exploring

  • Heritage

A listed building returned to a sustainable and appropriate use.

  • Housing

Potential supported accommodation and pathways towards independence.

  • Learning

Possible life-skills, training and employment-related activity.

  • Neighbourhood

An improved environment and community-facing opportunities.

These are aspirations, not delivered results. Once arrangements are confirmed, this page will explain programme eligibility, operator responsibilities, safeguarding routes, partnerships and measurable outcomes. Until then, ambitions are described qualitatively and carefully.
